Celebrating Small Wins: Small Wins, Mighty Momentum
Where Petals unfold, Hearts Flourish
Hey Lilies! Life’s big moments are worth celebrating, but today, let’s talk about the magic of the tiny victories – the ones that make you smile, the ones that prove you’re growing and remind you how far you’ve come. Those small triumphs add up and are largely responsible for the bigger wins. They matter and are major accomplishments. Some examples of small wins could be:
Finishing a tough task on time at work;
Trying a new recipe and nailing it;
Completing a workout when you didn’t feel like doing it; Reaching a personal reading goal for each month.
At face value, these wins might not seem like much to someone else, but for you, it’s a big deal, because you know just how much effort, energy and discipline it took for you to achieve those goals, and since most of them are actions that will need to be repeated, celebrating them each time you do them, is definitely encouragement to continue, at least until they have become a mastered habit. Another really important reason to celebrate these small wins is to help you to focus on what is going right. It is natural for us to spend our energies worrying or focusing on the things that are not going well, but shifting our focus from the negative happenings to more pleasant things, such as our small victories, will no doubt give us a moral boost.
Life usually happens in small fragments anyway, so waiting for the big moments to celebrate, could take us a while. Celebrating the small victories forces us to live in the present moment and to savor them.
HOW CELEBRATING SMALL WINS IMPACT DAILY LIVES:
- It boosts motivation and joy; doing a little dance when you finish a task feels awesome
- Doing so builds resilience; recognizing small wins reminds us that we can handle bigger challenges
- Creates a habit of positivity; celebrating wins helps us to see what’s going right
- Creates momentum; one win leads to the next and the next, which adds up to big progress over time.
WAYS TO CELEBRATE:
- Acknowledge it: Write it down or share with a friend;
- Treat Yourself: Do something you love (e.g., go for coffee, take a walk or buy yourself something new);
- Reflect: Think about what made this win special; was it a very challenging task for you?
I remember passing a math class in college, that was a big deal, because college math is a difficult subject for me (that might not be a major thing for someone else, but it was definitely worth celebrating for me).
